Christy Wang is an ex-CPA who followed a traditional career path working for PricewaterhouseCoopers, Merrill Lynch, and finally MTV Networks before realizing she just really wasn’t that traditional. For a year of her life, she committed to living according to whatever felt intuitively right rather than what made rational sense. She started a jewelry business that got written up in Time Out New York, studied Tai Chi and eastern spirituality while living on Wudang mountain in China, and volunteer taught former street children accounting and math while living outside an ashram in India.
Realizing that teaching provided the sense of purpose that she was longing for, she obtained her teaching certificate and taught for several years in China at both local and international schools (American and Japanese). These multi-cultural experiences gave her a broad sense of different educational models and teaching styles.
A strong believer in the project-based style of teaching and the maker movement, Christy is an avid supporter of Steamhead. As SteamHead’s volunteer Treasurer, she keeps the finances in order and hopes to provide Steamhead with a steady stream of income via her new business endeavor A Cookier’s Cabinet of Curiosities which will produce original hand illustrated 3D printed cookie cutters. Though no longer teaching in a regular classroom, she can be found teaching one of Steamhead’s many workshops.
Great Things in Chicago!
