In-Depth Look at Our 3D Printing Class at Dongwan Elementary

SteamHead, Moralture, and Dongwan Elementary School partnered two years ago to bring maker education to these awesome local kids. Dongwan is just down the road from us, and they needed some extra support because they’re a charitable private school that educates the children of migrant workers, who don’t qualify to go to the public elementary schools here in Shekou.

This year we got a grant from the Shekou Community Foundation to expand our work there and do a 3D printing and design class taught by SteamHead regular, Luke Henderson. He takes time out of his busy schedule working at M5 Stack to come teach this class, and uses the grant resources to print out all the kid’s projects.

We visited Luke’s class in November to document the class and interview Luke and our school liaison Jane Liang. Then we caught up with James and the school’s technology teacher Mr. Chen at the Nanshan School Maker Faire to see the kids in action.
